Recently, I was invited by a very dear friend, Debi to attend a product demonstration and focus group event held in the comfort of her lovely Granger, Ohio home. I, along with another dear friend, Michele, and several new acquaintances accepted the invitation for what promised to be an interesting evening. We were anticipating meeting a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur extraordinaire, Terry Thomsen, the founder, and developer of “Feel Good Dough.” Personally speaking, I initially agreed to attend the event solely in support of my gal pal, Debi, as gal pals do, but upon learning of Ms. Thomsen’s business name, I became curious about the lady behind the “Feel Good Dough” brand.
Upon arrival, we were briefly introduced to one another and soon guided to a well-appointed dining table where we nibbled on lovingly prepared hors-d’oeuvres, shared a little bit about ourselves, and described our connection to our kind host. We then gradually worked our way on to the purpose of our time spent together.
Business owner and focus group educator, Terry, a small-framed woman with a beautiful smile introduced herself to her captive audience. She started by sharing a little about herself too and how she embarked on her journey to becoming the “Feel Good Dough Lady”.
She said, “one day, it just hits you. You know, you just stop what you’re doing, and this overwhelming feeling comes over you...and then the light bulb turns on. My moment happened when my grandchildren were helping me make pizza dough. I realized how important it is for them to eat good wheat. The processed and cheap pizza dough was not what I wanted for them, or any other children.”
Terry elaborated on her thoughts about the importance of healthy food choices and the effect that current market food products were having on our bodies. She invited us to join in on the conversation. We all discussed our food shopping experiences, our reading of product labels, and the confusion over what was healthy and was not. We discussed the abundance of preservatives, additives, and chemicals found in our foods (for the purpose of long term storage and shelf life) and the potential of the direct links to and negative effects on our overall health. The conversation was insightful, informative and thought-provoking as well.
“It is my greatest pleasure knowing that I am helping this world eat good, and feel good at the same time.” - Terry Thomsen
Since the proof is in the pudding, not only did Terry take the time to mindfully educate us on the benefits of her product but followed up by heading to the kitchen to prepare a couple of her Feel Good Dough pizza recipes. While the dishes were baking, we read her product information details, snapped a few photos for social media, and got to know one another a little bit more. In what seemed like only a few moments, Terry re-entered the dining space and served her visually attractive and enticing treats to us. The consensus? Delicious! The pizzas were a hit and indeed, they were good! We all took a couple of moments to provide our thoughts. Our new acquaintance seemed to enjoy our feedback and thanked us for it. As we individually spoke, Terry became increasingly animated and enthusiastic. It was clear that she was delighting in our passion for her products. Her joy was truly infectious. She was feeling good, we were feeling good...everything was very good.
Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, the FGD Lady drops a bomb on us, a chocolate bomb! Our well-spoken, highly motivated, and exuberant educator had a secret… it was time for dessert!!! Terry proceeded to energetically describe to us one of her favorite and top-selling types of dough: ” My chocolate dough ingredients are simple...made with organic wheat flour, water, organic cocoa, organic olive oil, organic cane sugar, organic yeast, and kosher salt. It is 100% clean with flavors of melted chocolate, organic cane sugar, and organic vanilla that explode in your mouth to satisfy all your chocolate cravings.” Did she say chocolate?! Did she say dessert?! Am I dreaming?! I didn’t hear a single word of her description, in all honesty, I pulled her statement off of her website for the sake of this article. Everything that came out of her mouth sounded like the teacher from the Charlie Brown cartoon series... “wah wah wah, wah wah wah...” Seriously, Terry, you had me at “chocolate dough!” And with the addition of a little powdered sugar, oh my! It’s chocolate perfection!
As the evening came to a close, we ladies said our goodbyes and demonstrated our appreciation to our host and her inspiring guest. Upon my departure, Terry and I exchanged contact information and promised to keep in touch.
We have kept our promise and are building a beautiful friendship. Terry has graciously shared a great deal about herself and her life with me. I have learned that she is driven and goal-oriented, and she is not afraid of the word “no”! She is delightful, spirited, has a great sense of humor and I always feel good in her company!
Like Terry, do you take great pleasure in knowing that you are being helpful to others? Does the thought of making them happy bring you great satisfaction? Do you relish in their feedback? Are you motivated each day in your own pursuit of happiness?
This holiday season as you gather with your family and friends, I hope you will reflect on the things that bring you happiness.
