Bon Voyage

I have sailed a ship with a sea of friends

Been blessed by kindness, love, and laughter

I hope this journey never ends

Bon Voyage! Live happily ever after!

After 30 years in education, Harry set his mind on what seemed to be an insurmountable goal. He wished to move to the west coast of Florida and captain a yacht. He dreamed of spending his retirement at sea, commanding his own vessel.

Harry had always enjoyed sailing, but he was concerned about; investing the majority of his retirement savings into a yacht, how long he could be away from the comforts of home, and his ability to lead a crew of yachtsmen. Harry made a decision to put his financial concerns aside, discount his need for the comforts of home and rely on his many years of teaching to effectively command a small crew. Harry proceeded with his license requirements, purchased his coveted yacht and hired a couple of hardworking sailors.

Although Captain Harry did not know where he would get the passengers for his maiden voyage, nor for any future voyages, he remained focused on the task at hand, setting sail on a new adventure. As the days got closer to his maiden voyage, Harry had not received any phone calls in response to his marketing campaign. So, he decided to pick up the phone and call his friends. He thought it was a long shot. His friends would need to travel a significant distance to get to Florida and at a time when the weather in the north was not favorable. His first of several calls was to his childhood classmate, Michael, now an attorney with a frequently heavy caseload. Michael’s response came as a surprise to the captain. “Absolutely, I will come! What are friends for? And if you don’t mind, I’d love to bring a couple of colleagues.” Harry was elated and received several other return calls and messages from his friends.

Soon, Harry was booking dates, left and right, his business was off to a great start and he no longer was concerned about how things would work out to support his dream.

Captain Harry has not forgotten the support of his lifelong friends and has been commanding his vessel for the past ten years. Several of his pals have since retired to Florida, and enjoy the occasional cruise with the man with an insurmountable dream. Sailing his ship with a sea of friends led to the successful launching of Harry’s dream.

Like Harry and his treasured friends, I pray you will be blessed by friendship, love, and laughter. I hope your journey never ends. Bon Voyage! Live happily ever after!
