Found a gray hair on my head!
Oh my! Is it dead?
No color nor shine
Not sure, is it mine?
Plucked out one,
Plucked out two,
Plucked out three,
Plucked out four,
If I keep up this pace,
I won’t have any more!
Thank goodness for a good hairdresser and Clairol’s Brown/Black #11 for root touch-ups in a pinch!
Ready or not, change happens, and it’s not always to our liking. Graying and thinning hair, weight gain, and a myriad of other peculiarities play an ongoing role in the acts of our life. Light exercise, a healthy diet, and an even healthier attitude can contribute to how our bodies respond to the inevitable maturation process. Self-actualization, the fulfillment of one’s own desire and potential, can provide the necessary tools to aging gracefully, at any age.
For me, exercise seems to be the most challenging task to keep up with, as I age. However, if we want to manifest joy in our lives, we need to take steps to ensure our success. No more excuses! Get out, get going, and go for it! Adding a twenty to thirty-minute walk to our daily routine offers many health benefits; including the improvement of cardiac health, lowering of cholesterol, reduction of inflammation, and the alleviation of joint stiffness. So, lace up those back-of-the-closet tennies and make it happen!
Exercise is not the only key to a healthy and happy you. What we put in our tummies can determine how we experience life and the amount of energy we have to invest in it. Let’s face it; we all love to indulge in a delectable delight from time-to-time. However, the frequency of these indulgences can lead to unexpected and unwanted health risks. A balanced diet consisting of lean meats, such as poultry and fish, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and low-fat or fat-free dairy, allows that tantalizing treat. Yum!
Finally, and probably the most pivotal component of the “aging-gracefully” trifecta: Attitude. One should not forget how important a positive mindset is to the outcome of our prosperity. We will live the life we convince ourselves we are living. The message we decide to play over and over in our head determines how we experience all things that life has to offer. It is our inner dialogue that most influences our lives’ experiences. Being patient, kind, and loving towards ourselves affects our mood, our interactions with others, and our bodies response to stress. Replacing negative thought patterns with positive mantras and implementing deep-breathing, meditation, and relaxation techniques may also help to improve our overall health. We’ve got this!
Here’s to moving our bodies, consuming mostly healthy foods, and keeping our thoughts positive, gray hair and all!
