A-1 Photo Cat

I set my mind on a goal

And with that, I proceed

To complete the necessary tasks

And adjust as need be

I pray and push

I prod and pull

I take a deep breath and then

I see my dreams come to life

Built by passion from within!

Cathi Moya-Sherlock is one of the hardest-working women I have ever known! She always finds a way to make things happen. She is a taskmaster; working twelve-hour days in a metropolitan hospital in the San Diego area, running countless errands like a mad, mad gal, driving her teenage daughter, Sarah, from one activity to another (most weekends are spent hours away from home at practice sites and competitions), schlepping her slightly worn-out camera along the frenzied way, and finally, despite her heavy load, spouts, “I choose to be happy!”

This passionate woman and my dearest friend takes pride in all she does. Where the average person might find Cat’s schedule to be overwhelming, she finds pleasure in the challenge of it all! This might help to explain why she so exuberantly offered to add to her already full calendar and take some photos for the “I have an idea, I...might...possibly...

one day...publish a book,” I was working on.

Cat knew I had been writing for some time, interviewing others, drafting their stories, composing poems and quotes about my personal experience to joy and the inspiring people along the way. I suppose she hoped to demonstrate her support in any way she could, but this was not unusual for her. After all, my best friend had always been a terrific source of strength. She saw me through ten-plus years of health struggles, diagnoses, and misdiagnoses, and much, much more. She would chat into the wee hours of the night with me, all the while assuring her friend that things would be alright. She dropped everything at a moment’s notice to comfort me, she hopped on planes, made meals for my family, took my daughter to school and activities, watched me have seizures and sometimes, talk out of my head, and yet she was there through it all.

So, of course, when I explained my slightly hair-brained idea of combining the poems and quotes I had written with photos of the beauty of the outdoors, Cat was immediately off to take some shots! My passionate friend was on a mission. She walked out the back door of her home and took shots, loaded her daughter up for destinations unknown, took shots, headed to the beach (after a long day of work) to capture stunning sunsets, took shots, saw an opportunity in the hustle and bustle of her day, and took shots.

Collectively, Cathi Moya-Sherlock and I have taken many “shots”, sometimes together and other times from our respective states. Many of these delightful photos are featured in “A Joyful Life.” And although I have written and published the book, her photos have helped to convey the message of the abundant joy to be had in living life. For that, I am grateful.

Like Cathi, do you pray, push, prod, and pull to get things done? Do you find great satisfaction in setting goals and then working towards them? Do you choose a positive mindset even in the midst of chaos? If so, I urge you to do exactly what you love and “choose to be happy” along the way!
